On September 13th, We Welcome Jake Dunn From Zgf Architects. For The Last 5 Years At Zgf Architects, Jacob Has Been Focusing On Reducing The Embodied Carbon In Building Materials With A Focus On Procuring Climate Smart Wood For Mass Timber Projects With Disclosure And Transparency In The Supply Chain. He’s Currently Leading Research Projects With The University Of Washington Around Developing New Wood Carbon Calculators That Address Lca Data Gaps Around Biogenic Carbon In The Forest And Supply Chain.
Given Mass Timber’s Ascent And Its Climate Mitigation Potential, Understanding The Community And Ecological Impacts Of Wood Sourcing Will Only Become More And More Of A Priority In The Pnw And Beyond. The Pdx New Main Terminal Project Set Out To Intentionally Procure Wood For Its 400,000 Mass Timber Roof From Landowners Trying To Rebuild Their Communities While Increasing Their Forest’s Carbon Sequestration. This Talk Will Focus On How The Project Worked With Supply Chain Partners To Track Wood Back To Its Origin While Piloting New Methodologies To Connect Forest Carbon With Wood Product Life Cycle Analysis.
