Maine is one of the best getaway places to go in the United States. When you cross into Maine from New Hampshire a feeling of elation comes about. The cities of Maine like Portland and Bangor have all the entertainment a city should have minus the crowds and congestion. You can see the minor league Portland hockey team play here or walk a few blocks down to the waterfront to see the ferries to Nova Scotia get ready to depart. The capital of Augusta is another city with fine shopping and dining. Those of you who enjoy a more sedate setting cannot go wrong with a visit to the central part of Maine. The town of Canaan is the epitome of what an American town should be like. Sitting in front of the Canaan Motel and watching the traffic moving along route #2 is quite relaxing. The neighboring small city of Skowhegan can meet all of your needs without having to travel to a major city. You can become envious by seeing how great life is in central Maine. Aroostook county in northern Maine is the largest county and is where the famous Maine potatoes are grown. It is quiet and serene, only interrupted by the occasional Moose you will see by the side of the road. In Houlton, Maine you can cross over into New Brunswick, Canada and see the Indian Reservation of Woodstock. Houlton is a traditional American town with friendly people. Maine is an unspoiled paradise.
